Over the next two weekends, our local leagues will showcase the very best of grassroots football as teams battle it out for silverware on some fantastic stages. The BDYFL Hogan Cup Finals will once again be played on the hallowed turf of Blackpool FC’s iconic Bloomfield Road stadium, while the FLYFL Finals will take place at Fleetwood Town F.C.’s impressive Highbury Stadium. Alongside those fixtures, the Lancashire Football Association County Cup Finals will also be held at the County Ground in Leyland — making it a truly memorable fortnight for football across the county.

This year, CN are proudly represented by four teams competing across five finals — a remarkable achievement for the club and everyone involved.

Our youngest finalists, the U7 Pumas, will experience the magic of a Hogan Cup Final, while one of our U13 sides, fittingly named the Seasiders, will also have the opportunity to play at Bloomfield Road.

And it’s not just the boys flying the flag for the club. Our fantastic U15 Girls have reached the Coulton Plate Final for the very first time, adding another milestone to what has already been an outstanding season after recently completing their phase unbeaten.

Meanwhile, the unstoppable U12 Dynamites continue to make headlines. Fresh from winning Phase 2 of their division and still battling for the Phase 3 title, they now prepare for their Coulton Cup Final after competing in the Lancashire Football Association County Cup Final — an incredible accomplishment for any grassroots side competing against teams from across the entire county.

With finals, tournaments, and cup competitions filling the calendar — including the Blackpool Cup and the St Annes FC Tournament — May promises to be a thrilling month for every single one of our teams.

Most importantly, these occasions are about creating memories that players will carry with them forever. Walking out onto stadium pitches, representing the badge, and competing in finals in front of family and supporters are moments that make grassroots football so special.

Meet, Di Wilson!

Di has been attending our weekly women’s coaching sessions. At first, she attended mainly for the social and fitness aspects, but after only a couple of sessions she really found an interest in playing and getting involved. Di also found it was a way of sharing the passion for football with her son, who plays in the CN Sports Under 7 Blues team. Her son is impressed by how Di is starting to fully understand the rules.

Di told us the sessions are great fun! She said, “Everyone who attends is lovely, we all get on and join in even though we all have our own abilities, but the fitness element is as equally important for me. Going forward I hope to get fitter and play in an actual match against another team, and would love to score a goal to make my son proud of me…just like he makes me proud every week with his efforts.”

Well done, Di! Now we just need to educate you on supporting a better team!!  (Liverpool)

Jordan Gabriel’s Journey: From Nottingham Forest to Bloomfield Road Icon

Jordan Gabriel began his professional career at Nottingham Forest before joining Blackpool FC on loan during the 2020/21 season. He quickly made his mark, scoring in a 4-0 FA Cup win over Harrogate Town. That season culminated in Blackpool’s triumphant promotion to the Championship via a memorable Wembley victory.

Since then, Gabriel has become a key figure at Bloomfield Road, known for his tenacity, skill, and connection with fans. His signature chant, “Hey Baby,” is a matchday staple, echoing through the stands as a testament to his popularity.

Chris Nay, Chairperson of CN Sports, expressed his enthusiasm about the pairing:

Tangerine Team Mates: A Game-Changing Experience for Youth Football

The Tangerine Team Mates program offers unforgettable matchday experiences for grassroots clubs. CN Sports and other participating teams will be named “Team of the Day” at selected home fixtures at Bloomfield Road. Young players will:

• Meet Blackpool FC’s first-team squad
• Serve as flag bearers before kick-off
• Take part in a half-time lap of honour

These moments create lasting memories and fuel ambition among the region’s rising football stars.

On the Field

Let’s start where it matters most: the football! We are thrilled to welcome not one, but four new U7 teams this season: Blues, Whites, Tangerine, and the Diamonds. It’s been fantastic to see these young players beginning their football journey and enjoying the game with such enthusiasm.

Our U8 boys and girls teams have both kicked off the season with strong performances, while the U9 Tigers have also been delivering some notable results. Moving up the age groups, the U10 Blues and Wildcats have had a busy start, and the Cobras, playing up a year in the U11 league, are adapting well to the 9-a-side game.

Our U11 girls have seen great success this season, with the Wildcats competing in a Saturday boys league and our newly formed Sunday team, the Comets, having a solid Phase 1, showcasing a great mix of experienced players and newcomers.

From U12 upwards, the results have been equally impressive. Both the Seasiders and the Whites have had strong starts and are sitting in promising positions in their respective leagues. The U13 mixed team remains undefeated, winning two games and drawing two, currently placing them third in their league. Meanwhile, our oldest team, the U14 girls, are second in their table with a game in hand, following a brilliant win against top-of-the-table Fleetwood.

A massive well done to all the teams for their efforts so far, and best of luck as we head into the next stage of the season leading up to Christmas!

Off the Field

It’s been just as busy off the pitch for the committee and coaches. We’ve been hard at work ensuring all qualifications are up-to-date, completing the necessary pre-season paperwork, and registering and affiliating teams.

We’re also excited to have launched our new home and away kits this summer, thanks to Macron for setting up our very own club shop. You can check it out here: CN Sports Club Shop.

Sponsorship has been another key focus, and we’ve been collaborating with local businesses to secure sponsorship for our teams. This has enabled us to provide kits, jackets, and more. If you or someone you know would like to become a sponsor, please reach out at cnsports2019.secretary@gmail.com.

We’ve also created Coaches and Parents Handbooks for the new season and are continuously working on improving our website.

On October 15th, we held our AGM, where the committee for the next 12 months was voted in. We said a heartfelt thank you to Tracey, who has served as the club’s treasurer for the last three seasons and has been instrumental in introducing team budgets. Luke Appleton will now take over as Treasurer, while I will be stepping in as Secretary. Sam will continue as our Safeguarding Officer, and we’re thrilled to welcome Katie Fox as Assistant Welfare Officer.

Jen Brocklebank, one of our U7 managers, was also voted onto the committee as Vice Chair. Jen brings a wealth of football experience, and we’re excited to see her contribute to new fundraising ideas and the launch of a new ladies football session. A warm welcome also to Becky Wood, who will be helping us expand our social media presence.

Looking Ahead

As a club, we are always looking to expand and improve. In the coming months, we hope to welcome at least two more teams to CN Sports and continue growing our partnership with CN Active and the Monday Night Development Centre. This has been kindly sponsored for the first time this year by Carpets of Lytham and will provide a pathway for our U7 teams in the 25/26 season.

We’re also planning Christmas socials and events, as well as exploring tournament opportunities, including the potential for a 3v3 competition on our state-of-the-art pitches. Additionally, we’re considering a big club event for next summer—so stay tuned!

As you can see, there’s never a dull moment at CN Sports. If you feel you can contribute your expertise or volunteer your time, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We are always looking for more volunteers to join our fantastic club community.

It’s been fantastic to see the growth of our younger age groups over the summer and to see them all starting their football team journey. A huge shoutout must also go to those who have stepped forward to coach the teams every week, without you the children wouldn’t be able to play team football, so Thankyou!

Looking back on last season, it was very fitting to celebrate our fifth year of grassroots football at Bloomfield Road, bringing together all of the CN Sports children, coaches, committee and parents as we hosted our Presentation Night. This event wouldn’t have happened without the hard work of Tracy and Sam who worked so hard to make the event such a special night and huge shoutout to Lee who was fantastic on the microphone as we welcomed the legend that is Brett Ormerod to present the awards for the CN children. Thankyou! 

Its fantastic to see how the club has grown from 2 to 17 teams in just 5 years and equally as satisfying to see a good number of these children have stayed with us for that period. On the evening we recognised the following children for 5 years service to CN:

Zachary Boardman, Stanley Boustead, Ronnie Coyne, Harry Gargate, Oscar Gledhill, Huey Murphy, Frankie Nay, Ollie McDonough, Freddie Smith, Jacob Steadman, Ethan Thompson, Amber James, Joel Hughes, Chester Needham, Charlie Needham.

Also a massive congratulations to all of our other winners on the nights, but every single one of the children our winners in my eyes.

We held our AGM recently and it was sad to see Tracy our Treasurer step down, but I’d like to say once again a huge Thankyou to her for all her hard work over the last two years. Whilst mentioning committee members I would also like to put on record thanks to our existing committee members who are standing again, Lee, Luke and Sam you do amazing things for the club and I’d like to welcome Jenny on board as our new vice chairperson. I would also like to say a massive Thankyou once again to to Boardy, Darren, Iwan and Rachel who helped put the club where it is today, you will always be a huge part of the club, thankyou for all your efforts.
